IYO SKY Gets New Challenger For WWE Women’s Championship

IYO SKY with WWE Women's Championship

IYO SKY will be defending the WWE Women’s Championship in two weeks on SmackDown.

On the latest edition of the blue brand, SKY and her Damage CTRL teammate Bayley took on Charlotte Flair and Asuka. Dakota Kai was at ringside for the bout, holding onto SKY’s title belt.

However, she wasn’t able to keep hold of it for long as the former champion, Asuka appeared behind her and grabbed the belt. The goings on at ringside distracted Damage CTRL’s attention, allowing Shotzi to pin Bayley for the victory.

SKY then confronted The Empress Of Tomorrow in the ring, where Asuka dropped the belt and left, making her intentions clear.

Later in the night, SKY issued a challenge for Asuka to face her for the title, something the former champion happily accepted, claiming SKY isn’t ready for her. WWE later made the match official for the September 22nd edition of SmackDown.

When did IYO SKY win the WWE Women’s Championship?

IYO SKY became Ms. Money In The Bank at the eponymous event in London back in July. She held onto the coveted briefcase until SummerSlam.

There, Asuka was defending the WWE Women’s Championship against both Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat match. The match came to an end when Belair, despite being trapped in Flair’s Figure Eight, was able to counter a kick from Asuka into a pin for the victory.

Unfortunately for Belair, it was a short reign as SKY chose that moment to cash in with assistance from Bayley. After Bayley took out Flair and Asuka, SKY hit an Over The Moonsault on Belair to capture the gold.
