John Cena has been a regular feature on WWE TV ever since the Writers Guild of America went on strike back in May leaving Hollywood production at a standstill.
Whilst some productions have continued during the strikes, most actors and production agents have had their work halted either due to lack of scripts on in solidarity with the striking writers and in an attempt to not ‘scab’ on the strikers.
John Cena’s WWE return has been caveated on multiple occasions with notes that his return to the WWE will only last for the duration of the strikes with Cena expected to be back in Hollywood as soon as possible.
Well despite several WWE appearances for Cena already being teased/announced, it looks like his return to the WWE could be coming to an end once again.
As reported by CNBC, after a face-to-face meeting between writers and producers yesterday, the two parties are now “near an agreement to end the Writers Guild of America strike.”
The report goes on to note that “the two sides met and hope to finalize a deal Thursday [today.]”
CNBC’s sources also not that whilst they are optimistic, they would note that if a deal is not reached following yesterday’s meeting the strike could last through the end of the year.
It is unknown at this time how quickly Cena would return to Hollywood following the conclusion of the strikes, but that this would likely prevent the announcement of any further dates or programmes for John Cena in the WWE at this time.
A previous report from Fightful Select noted that if the strike ends while Cena has bookings in WWE then the company will try to wrap up whatever Cena is involved in and allow him to return to his outside projects.
However, Fightful notes that “there is no concern about him missing advertised dates in the event that the strike abruptly ends.”
At current Cena’s last advertised date is for the final SmackDown of October- meaning that fans may have just one five shows left of John Cena in WWE.
