Orange Cassidy Hits Impressive AEW Milestone

Orange Cassidy

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door fans were treated to several highly-anticipated matchups that included Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay for the IWGP United Staes Championship and The American Dragon Bryan Danielson vs. The Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada.

These dream matches were supported by never-seen-before outings such as MJF vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW World Championship and SANADA vs. Jungle Boy Jack Perry for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Another first-time-ever encounter saw Orange Cassidy defend the International Championship in a Four-Way match. The denim-clad King of Sloth Style, Orange Cassidy took on Daniel Garcia, the ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata and the NJPW Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. in a Four-Way match.

The thrilling encounter was one of his toughest challenges to date. However, despite the disadvantage, Cassidy was able to retain the title and reach a huge milestone in the process.

Orange Cassidy Has Now Defended The AEW International Championship 25 Times

The win means that Cassidy has now successfully defended the title twenty-five times tying the impressive record set by Jade Cargill during her TBS Championship reign.

Cassidy has held the championship since defeating PAC on the October 12th, 2022 episode of Dynamite. Since capturing the title he has taken on all comers including the likes of Rush, Wheeler Yuta, Buddy Matthews and Jeff Jarrett.

Originally named the All-Atlantic Championship, it was introduced last year and after a tournament, the first-ever champion was crowned at Forbidden Door 2022. In a Four-Way match, PAC defeated Malakai Black, Miro and Clark Conners to become the inaugural champion.

The title was renamed on March 8th as the International Championship to celebrate the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods and the promotion’s partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery.
