Mercedes Mone Shows Off Aftermath Of NJPW Injury

Mercedes Mone in NJPW & STARDOM

Mercedes Mone appears to be on the road to recovery.

The former Sasha Banks sustained an unfortunate leg injury while wrestling Willow Nightingale for the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship in the finals of the inaugural tournament for the title. It looks like the injury is going to put the star on the shelf for an undisclosed amount of time. Now that timetable is further put in question as Mone has apparently underwent surgery.

Mone took to her Instagram to share a photo of her injured leg elevated while her dog watches on. Mone also included the little caption sticker “Day 6 Recovery” indicating of the road to recovery is just starting for the star.

How Plans Possibly Have Changed For Mercedes Mone

Mone was reportedly slated for big things both in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and in turn, AEW. Before the in-match injury, Mone was going to defeat Nightingale in the finals of the tournament to become the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, but due to Mone getting hurt, that honor went to the fan favorite Nightingale. On top of that, Mone’s new reign with new gold was going to be all the more accentuated with a potential involvement at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2, but any notion of that is clearly off the table. A recent report from Fightful Select indicated that Mone may have been set to face Saraya at the upcoming PPV.

Many fans are hoping that the injury won’t cause a permanent derailment of Mone being “money” for AEW as there’s still hope that she should potentially be ready for a match at AEW ALL IN come August at Wembley Stadium.
