Gunther Reveals WWE Offer That He Will Never Take

Gunther will not use the Intercontinental Championship to gain an unfair advantage.

Having held the title longer than anyone in history and beaten all of have tried to stop him, The Ring General is looking at the next step in his career, becoming the World Champion. However, he has made it clear that he wants to earn his opportunity just like everyone else, as should whoever holds the IC Title next.

As was seen recently on AEW Dynamite, ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe shockingly vacated the title to focus on the World Championship. Gunther has revealed that if a similar opportunity were to ever present itself in WWE, he would not take it or even consider it.

Speaking with The Masked Man Show, the leader of Imperium wants to protect the prestige of the championship at all costs, stating that if anyone wants to become IC Champion then they have to beat him for it, not win a vacant title:

“No, no, that’s not going to happen. I can break every streak in the world, I would still not trade it in. God willing, I will be the World Champion at some point and I will have earned it. It will not be a hand out. That’s important to me. I would never drop the Intercontinental Championship on purprose. That’s not going to happen,”

The latest challenger hoping to become Intercontinental Champion will be The Miz, with the title match scheduled for Survivor Series.

Gunther Was Not Always A Fan Of WWE

Declaring that the mat is sacred and not one to indulge in the sports entertainment side of wrestling, many fans still find it bizarre that The Ring General is actually wrestling in the world’s biggest promotion. In a separate interview, Gunther revealed that at one point he despised WWE early in his career and was focused on a more athletic presentation.

In a separate interview, the Intercontinental Champion defended Roman Reings’ current WWE schedule.
