In 2004 Brock Lesnar stepped away from WWE to pursue a career in MMA, setting his sights on the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
However, prior to making it to the Octagon, Lesnar’s first brush with mixed martial arts took place on June 2, 2007 at K1 Hero’s Dynamite USA!! event hosted in Los Angeles. Utilising his vast amateur wrestling experience, Brock quickly took down and mounted opponent Min-soo Kim before submitting him with strikes at 69 seconds in the first round.
During UFC 77 on October 20, 2007, it was announced that Brock has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC.
Brock Lesnar – UFC Heavyweight Champion
Following an unanimous decision victory against Heath Herring at UFC 87, Brock Lesnar was fast-tracked to the top of the UFC Heavyweight division, earning a title fight against UFC legend Randy Couture at UFC 91.
After a close first round, Lesnar mounted Couture and stopped the champion in the second round to become UFC Heavyweight Champion at the first attempt, realising his goal in only his fourth MMA contest.
Eight months later “The Beast” would defend the Heavyweight crown against Frank Mir, his adversary in his UFC debut, at UFC 100. This time he would exact revenge on Mir, stopping him with punches in the second round, and followed the victory up with a successful defence a year later against Shane Carwin at UFC 116.
Did Brock Lesnar lose in the UFC?
Alongside his four victories inside the Octagon, Brock Lesnar lost three times in the UFC at the hands of Frank Mir, Cain Valesquez and Alistair Overeem.
In his UFC debut at UFC 81, Lesnar fell victim to a kneebar in round one against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. However, despite veteran Mir walking away with the victory, Lesnar landed 16 strikes and two takedowns in a frantic 90-second encounter.
Two year later, the now UFC Heavyweight Champion lost his crown to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 when he was rocked by an onslaught of punches from the Mexican, ending the contest and Lesnar’s reign via TKO at 4:12 in the first round.
The last of his three losses came at the powerful feet and hands of Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 after being dismantled by a body kick and series of punches.
Lesnar would leave the UFC following the loss to Overeem, returning at UFC 200 to best Mark Hunt on points – a decision that was later overturned due to a violation of United States Anti-Doping Agency’s banned substance policy.
