Paul Wight Named As Part Of PED Scandal, Denies Involvement

Paul Wight

Paul Wight was a name listed along with several former MLB players in an old Biogenisis report from over a decade ago, and Wight’s attorney has issued a response.

The Biogenesis report caused waves 10 years ago in Major League Baseball that casted a cloud over several star players at the time including Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz and Ryan Braun, all of whom served suspensions. A new article via ESPN has several non-baseball names connected to 1,400 pages of a federal investigation document and one of those names happens to be Paul Wight.

Tony Bosch, one of the masterminds behind the Biogenesis operation, said in a 2014 interview that he treated Wight in 2009 through 2010 and that Wight had him and several others over for Thanksgiving dinner. Bosch claims that Wight was taking additional performance-enhancing drugs behind his back courtesy of Bosch’s business partner Jorge “Ugi” Velazquez, who spent 30 months in prison due to his involvement. Bosch also claimed that Wight advised stronger substances for wrestlers and that he continued to work with Wight a few more times after that.

Paul Wight Denies Taking Substances Via Legal Team

Paul Wight’s attorney, Edward Brennan, issued a statement to ESPN on behalf of his client, confirming that Wight did have him over for Thanksgiving dinner, but noting that the AEW star denies any involvement with Bosch, Velazquez or use of PEDs due to his struggles against an endocrine system disorder.

“Paul never treated with Bosch, Paul never took any PEDs from Ugi or anyone else. He is as clean as you can be. More importantly, he would never take any PEDs because of his underlying medical condition.”
