Major Update On Future Of Will Ospreay; Where NJPW Expect Him To Sign

Will Ospreay in the ring on AEW Dynamite

Backstage details have emerged on where New Japan Pro-Wrestling expects Will Ospreay to sign when his current contract expires!

The wrestling future of current IWGP United Kingdom Champion Will Ospreay has become a hotly debated topic as of late. In an interview earlier this year, Will Ospreay revealed that his NJPW contract is set to expire in February 2024 and whilst he continues to hold negotiations with his current promotion, there’s said to be interest in him from every major company.

Another topic that’s been heavily speculated on recently is the mystery new AEW signing who will be revealed at Full Gear tonight, who Tony Khan teased on X as being “one of the world’s best wrestlers” earlier this week. Will Ospreay has since been seemingly revealed as that signee following reports yesterday from Mat Men Podcast’s Andrew Zarian and Haus of Wrestling.

Now, yet another update has seemingly backed that claim up. Mike Johnson of PWinsider reports that he was told by sources at NJPW that they expect Ospreay to sign with AEW. It was also noted, however, that the 30-year-old was not backstage at last night’s AEW Collision and Rampage broadcast.

As Zarian noted on Mat Men Podcast yesterday, this would be a huge acquisition for AEW given that WWE has also been actively pursuing him. Last month, Dave Meltzer noted that one potential idea WWE had for Will Ospreay was to make him the face of the upcoming NXT Europe brand.

When Did Will Ospreay Last Wrestle For AEW?

Will Ospreay has wrestled in five separate matches for AEW throughout this year and last competed for the company at AEW WrestleDream last month.

At the time of writing, Ospreay is currently undefeated on AEW pay-per-views and holds an 8-3 win/loss record in the promotion overall.
