Jon Moxley handed victory to The Golden Elite after one of the most brutal matches AEW Dynamite has ever seen.
Blood & Guts has never been for the faint of heart and so it proved again on July 19th as the likes of Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks battled through a bed of nails, glass, thumbtacks, chairs, and a table. There was also the small matter of Matt Jackson hitting a series of Northern Lights Suplexes on Wheeler Yuta on top of the huge cage.
The match began with Kenny Omega and Claudio Castagnoli representing their respective teams, but following the arrival of Moxley, the violence kicked up a gear. He stabbed Omega and Adam Page with a screwdriver and then the broken glass came into play, although it was Moxley who got dropkicked onto it.
One of the wildest moments came with Matt Jackson perched on top of the cage and showering thumbtacks onto those below, and PAC and Castagnoli got backdropped onto them.
The match then took a completely bizarre turn as after one miscommunication too many PAC ended up arguing with Castagnoli. Despite Wheeler Yuta’s best efforts as a peacemaker, PAC had seen enough and broke out of the case with bolt cutters and headed to the back. As the action continued, Moxley got handcuffed and Don Callis pulled Konosuke Takeshita out of the match leaving it five on three.
With Moxley stranded, he was forced to watch as Page choked Yuta unconscious with a cage. It initially appeared that this caused the referee stoppage, but commentary stated that Moxley had submitted with Yuta unable to respond.
Jon Moxley Aiming To Make History
Jon Moxley’s appearance in Blood & Guts was his first match since returning from Japan where he wrestled on both nights of NJPW STRONG Independence Day.
After securing victory again El Desperado on night two, Moxley set his sights on IWGP Heavyweight Champion, SANADA. Should Moxley win New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s top prize, he’ll become the first man to have captured World Titles in WWE, AEW, and NJPW.
