The Gunns Fire Back At Criticism Of Recent AEW Title Win

The Gunns Austin Gunn Colten Gunn

The main event of the February 8th episode of AEW Dynamite saw The Gunns take on The Acclaimed in an AEW World Tag Team Championship match.

After suffering a rift from his sons, Billy Gunn has been firmly in the corner of The Acclaimed. However, despite his attempts to help his adopted team, Austin and Colten Gunn were shockingly able to defeat Max Caster and Anthony Bowens to secure their first taste of gold in AEW, albeit under controversial circumstances as some consider the win to be stolen as Anthony Bowens was only pinned after being hit in the head with one of the title belts.

The controversial finish to the match and decision to have the title change hands has divided AEW fans, and on a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, the so-called Ass Boys fired back at criticism they’ve received since becoming champions.

“There’s Nobody That Can Touch Us” – Austin Gunn On The Gunns’ Success

Colten Gunn addressed the situation first, calling his title win alongside his brother the greatest moment of his life and speaking about advancing so quickly during his relatively short time in wrestling.

“I mean, it was the greatest moment in my life. I don’t know if a lot of people know this, but I’ve only been wrestling for two years. I was on TV after eight weeks of training. My first match on TV was against Sting. I’m really good at this.

“My one goal was just to win the tag team championships with my brother and I did that. Another thing is me and Austin have been broken away from my dad for four to six months, something like that. We’ve had maybe 10 TV matches together, maybe, and we’re already champions.

“People are like, ‘Oh, this is the peak.’ This isn’t even the beginning for me and Austin. I just want to reiterate that and let people not forget that, that we’ve only been doing this for like I said, like less than 10 TV matches, but that moment was awesome. I mean, we’re champions and you can’t take that away from us.”

Austin Gunn chimed in next, saying he’s tired of The Gunns not getting their due praise for being able to elicit emotional reactions from the crowd.

“I’m just so sick of not being handed or given our flowers. Colten has been in this business for two years. Every time we step out of that curtain, everybody on Twitter is always like, ‘Oh, The Gunns are so boring. I can’t get behind them. Oh my gosh, they’re not even good at wrestling.’ Then every time we go out there, I can’t even hear Colten over the ass boy chants and the way we have them in the palm of our hand.

“So when that 1-2-3 and Bowens doesn’t kick out, I look over the crowd and everybody’s like, ‘Oh my God, my favorite tag team. Not The Acclaimed. Oh no’ That is the best moment. I can’t even sleep. I still think about it. It’s one of the best moments I’ve ever had in my wrestling career hearing the hush and the silence over the crowd followed by bullsh*t chants while me and Colten raising the titles high on the stage, just embracing the bullsh*t chants, just soaking that in.

“That is what I love. I love seeing them just in shock because we’re taking over. We’re the head of this division. We now have the tag team title belts. Come get them. We’re the best to ever do this. Second generation, up and coming AEW superstars. Name a young team that’s better than The Gunns. There isn’t. There’s nobody that can touch us.”
