At Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor, fans will see the promotion usher in new championships in tribute to the late great Jay Briscoe.
Following Jay’s tragic passing earlier this year, his brother, Mark vacated the ROH Tag Team Championships. New champions will be crowned in a Reach for the Sky Ladder match at the pay-per-view on March 31st.
But not only will The Lucha Brothers, Top Flight, The Kingdom, Aussie Open or La Facción Ingobernables leave the match as new champions, they will also do so with brand-new title designs.
Speaking ahead of the event Ring of Honor President Tony Khan told the Battleground Podcast, how they will retire the old Tag Team title design and unveil new belts to pay tribute to and in honour of Jay Briscoe.
“We were talking about ideas to pay tribute to the late, great Jamin Pugh, Jay Briscoe. So many of us loved Jay Briscoe, he’s beloved in the locker room and there are wrestling fans all over the world that loved him.
We wanted to pay tribute to him in Ring of Honor with something special and of all the ideas I heard, this was by far the best idea. It came from somebody who liked him a lot and wanted to contribute a good idea.
It’s really something that, Mark Briscoe thought it was a great idea, and that was important to me too. Having his opinion and having his buy in to this made all the difference in the world. It’ll be new belts, we retired the old design,”
Tony Khan Is Promoting ROH Supercard of Honor
On Friday, March 31st Ring of Honor presents Supercard of Honor LIVE from the Galen Center at USC. The pay-aper-view returns for its sixteenth year and the second produced on Tony Khan’s watch.
The show obviously features a stacked lineup featuring the best ROH has to offer. Plus fans will get to see AAA and NJPW stars in action, as well as new tag team champions crowned and multiple titles on the line.
