Former WWE Champion Expected To Be Making Their Return “Shortly”

WWE Championship belt

Kofi Kingston has been out of action since suffering an injury on the March 3rd episode of SmackDown.

On the show, Kingston fell awkwardly as Drew McIntyre performed a dive over the top rope. The injury meant that the star missed WrestleMania 39 and has been absent from television since.

However, after Kingston revealed that he’s ahead of schedule with his recovery, it has been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the star will be back “shortly.” Once fully fit, Kingston is expected to join up with New Day teammate Xavier Woods on Raw.

“Kofi Kingston should be back shortly after undergoing ankle surgery, He is starting to be listed in advertising for shows, although the shows are still a few months away. Kingston & Woods will be put back together as a tag team on Raw most likely upon his return.

Kingston said the surgery was to remove a bone chip and fix a ligament after McIntyre landed on his leg accidentally when doing a flip dive and the injury was such that it needed surgery. He said he’s ahead of schedule on the recovery and said he’s been in Orlando training for a return and things are looking good, so he said hopefully sooner than later he’ll be back in the ring.”

Another Former WWE Champion Nearing A Comeback?

The news on a return for Kofi Kingston comes after it was confirmed that WWE has also been in discussions with Drew McIntyre over bringing the Scottish Warrior back into the fold.

McIntyre has been absent from the company since WrestleMania 39 and his future with WWE remains uncertain with the two sides yet to agree terms on a new contract. However, it has been reported that the star could be back soon, and might even appear at Money In The Bank on July 1st in London, England.
