AEW Star Recalls Coffin Match With Darby Allin; “It Was The Scariest Moment Of My Career”

AEW Star Recalls Coffin Match With Darby Allin;

AEW’s Ethan Page has stated that the Coffin match with Darby Allin still haunts him to this day.

Back in 2021, Allin and Page settled their rivalry in the former TNT Champion’s signature match. Although Allin won the match, he was not finished with his opponent. Climbing to the top rope, Allin dove to the outside to hit a Coffin Drop onto the closed casket that contained Page.

With no indication of when Allin would make an impact, Ethan Page has admitted he found the ordeal terrifying. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Page looked back on the first Coffin match in AEW and was unaware of what was happening while he lay inside the coffin:

“That coffin match was, I think it still is taking time off my career, that one was rough. It was easily the scariest moment of my career. The coffin is closed, and the lid is shut. I have no clue what’s happening. I’m gonna get hit when I’m gonna get hit. I’m just [thinking] thank God the match is over, that was extremely painful. But also, I’m alone in this box, no one’s talking to me. It’s not like I have something in my ear.

And then here comes this body crashing through this box and it’s landing right on my knees and I’m in the foetal position, which is not something you want to be in just to be cramped in the box. Anyway, that was the scariest thing for me. But yeah, being in that box was the scariest thing ever in my career, and probably will be ever.”

Allin’s most recent Coffin Match took place at All in, where he and Sting defeated Swerve Strickland and Christian Cage inside Wembley Stadium. During the same interview, Page explained why he wanted to work more dates in ROH.

Darby Allin To Take Extended Absence From AEW

While Allin has been aligned with Sting for a number of years on weekly, in recent months The Icon and the former TNT Champion have not been seen together or Dynamite. This is because Darby Allin has taken an extended absence from AEW for a bizarre reason.
