Backstage Update On John Cena Appearing At WWE Money In The Bank

John Cena at WWE Money In The Bank

Not for the first time in his career, John Cena stunned the WWE Universe by showing up unannounced at one of the company’s biggest shows of the year.

With the crowd still reeling from the surprise — but half-expected — return of Drew McIntyre, John Cena’s music hit to an outrageous ovation. A far cry from the divisive reception he usually received during his full-time career.

Once in the ring, Cena paid tribute to fans in the whole of the United Kingdom as well as those in the building, before pitching for WrestleMania to be brought to London. This brought out Grayson Waller who made his own pitch for the spectacular to be taken to Australia. After some back and forth, Cena felled Waller with an AA and ended the segment standing tall and celebrating with fans as he headed backstage.

Is John Cena Sticking Around In WWE?

Despite the incredible reception that he received at Money In The Bank, John Cena won’t be sticking around in WWE for a long-term program.

A new report from Fightful Select noted that Cena’s appearance was kept very quiet, as with McIntyre’s return. WWE high-ups noted that Cena was only scheduled to appear on the show and there’s nothing planned for him going forward. However, this could change if his schedule allows.

WWE was said to be very happy with how things went at Money In The Bank.

John Cena hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.
