Booker T Reacts To Controversial NWA Spot: “Being A Promoter Ain’t Easy”

Booker T Reacts To Controversial NWA Spot:

Booker T has given his thoughts on what happened at NWA and has made a pitch for his own independent promotion to fill the slot that was rumoured to be saved for the promotion.

The National Wrestling Alliance has recently hit the headlines for the wrong reasons following a spot during the Samhain pay-per-view that appeared to depict Father James Mitchell snorting cocaine with a group of wrestlers. Prior to the pay-per-view taking place, NWA owner Billy Corgan revealed that a new TV deal had been secured for the promotion and the rumoured network would be CW Sports.

Following the scene involving Mitchell going viral, it is believed that CW Sports may have withdrawn the offer. Booker T, who is the owner of the Reality of Wrestling promotion, addressed the issues that can be faced with putting on shows for an upstart promotion on the Hall of Fame podcast. The Hall of Famer described the infamous spot as “shock TV” and promoters should focus more on substance.

The former King of the Ring winner also addressed the reported new deal for the NWA, going on to pitch to CW Sports that if they need to fill their airtime with another wrestling promotion, he knows one that is available:

“Being a promoter is not easy,” said Booker. “Putting on shows is not easy, trying to fit into what’s going on now, always talking about, you know, if you don’t know how to change with the times, the times pass you by. Everything is like shock TV to them, you know, it’s like jumping off something and taking a bump. You know, then the fans going, ‘This is awesome.’ Everybody’s looking for that instant coffee, that one thing that is going to make their show pop, you know, more so than the next show.

I just want to let … just in case CW is listening, we have a small little show called Reality of Wrestling that would love that spot, and we ain’t doing no cocaine angles.”

Booker T also criticised a recent AEW match, labelling it as one of the dumbest things he has ever seen.

NXT Commentator Booker T To Be On New Network In 2024

The slot that was pencilled in for the NWA now appears to have been taken by WWE. As reported on November 7th, WWE NXT has secured a new multi-year deal with CW Sports that will begin in October 2024. The deal is said to last for 5 years and will mean that every home in America will have access to NXT every Tuesday night. When the news broke regarding the new deal, NWA talent was said to be “blindsided” by the new partnership with WWE.
