Kurt Angle Claims Surprising Faction Could Have Been As Big As The nWo

Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle believes one of the factions he was part of could have been huge.

After leaving WWE in 2006, the Olympic Gold Medallist joined TNA – now IMPACT Wrestling. Angle quickly became one of the top stars in the company and feuded with the likes of Samoa Joe, Christian Cage, and AJ Styles.

In 2008, while out of action with a neck injury, Angle formed a new faction that consisted of many of the veterans on the TNA roster, including Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T, and Scott Steiner. The group was known as the Main Event Mafia and is one of the most notable heel factions in the company’s history.

Despite the pedigree of its members and success in the ring, though, the group only lasted for a year before disbanding, with Angle leaving to promote the younger talent in the promotion instead.

According to Angle, things could have been much more impressive for the Mafia.

“Holy crap, this thing is going to be huge.” – Kurt Angle on the Main Event Mafia

During the latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, all about the birth of the Main Event Mafia, the star said they knew it would be big from the start.

However, he doesn’t think they were given enough time to mature. Although if they had been, he is sure it would’ve been as big as the nWo.

“We all knew. It actually worked out even better once we formulated it. We were like ‘Holy crap, this thing is going to be huge.’

“I just don’t think that we gave it enough time. I think if we let it mature for a while, it would be every bit as big as the nWo.”

His co-host, Paul Bromwell, joked that the comparison would get the most news coverage of the episode, something Angle agreed with.

“Yeah, that’s going viral.”
