Tony Khan Confirms Ring Of Honor’s Return

AEW boss Tony Khan Ring of Honor

AEW President and owner of Ring of Honor Tony Khan has confirmed when ROH will make a return to running shows.

Khan recently presided over the Forbidden Door pay-per-view which was a co-promotional event between his AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

On the show the two wrestling worlds collided in spectacular fashion with Hiroshi Tanahashi going one-on-one with Jon Moxley in the main event. Moxley was able to put away NJPW’s Ace and in doing so crowned himself as Interim AEW World Champion.

The headlines from the event however were to be stolen by a debuting Claudio Castagnoli. Formerly known as Cesaro in WWE, the Swiss star emerged as Bryan Danielson’s replacement for his originally scheduled bout against Zack Sabre Jr.

Speaking at the post-Forbidden Door media scrum Tony Khan discussed his original plans for Castagnoli’s debut and in doing so revealed when Ring of Honor will make its return:

“I asked [Castagnoli] about coming in before I knew for sure that Bryan was out, though I had a pretty good idea that Punk would be out. I could tell there would be a lot of changes. We already had a lot of injured people, I had no idea we would have even more on the run-up to the show.”

“It was the day after the Forum, so June 2nd, I called and had interest, there was definitely mutual interest. At that point, I felt there was a good chance. I wasn’t sure if it would be here or another thing or Death Before Dishonor, July 23, on pay-per-view in Lowell, Massachusetts. Ring of Honor’s return event.”

“I figured there was a chance that if Bryan made it back, there was a good chance that he would have started at Death Before Dishonor and it would have been a great moment there.”
