WWE SmackDown Star Undergoes Another Name Change

GUNTHER Madcap Moss Riddick Moss WWE SmackDown

WWE Superstars are no strangers to having their names changed at the drop of a hat, and prior to Triple H taking over as Chief Content Officer, Vince McMahon mandated a number of changes.

Among others, WALTER became GUNTHER, Pete Dunne became Butch, and Piper Niven became Doudrop. Another star affected was Riddick Moss, who had his name changed to Madcap Moss in 2021 when he returned from injury to align himself with Baron Corbin, who was going by the name Happy Corbin at the time.

Despite having split from Corbin months ago and portraying a more serious side of himself on recent programming, it appeared that the Madcap name was here to stay. However, according to his Superstar profile on WWE.com, the star is once again known as Riddick Moss.

Vince McMahon Was Behind Riddick Moss Adopting The Madcap Name In WWE

Real name Michael Carter Rallis, Moss began training at the Performance Center in 2014 before making his in-ring debut with NXT under the name Digg Rawlis. He later changed his name to Riddick Moss in August 2015.

Speaking in a September 2022 interview with The Danny Bonaduce & Sarah Morning Show, Moss opened up about how he came up with his ring name, and revealed that none other than Vince McMahon was behind the decision to change his first name to Madcap when he aligned with Baron Corbin.

“Growing up, I was a Vikings fan and a Randy Moss fan. That’s where the Moss came from. Originally, I was Riddick Moss. Riddick was just a cool name, that’s where that came from. That’s the extent of that.

More recently, in the last year, I came back off an ACL tear and have been repackaged and had a rebirth, that’s where I became Madcap Moss. That came from the head man, Vince McMahon himself.” (h/t Fightful)

Moss last competed on the April 14th episode of SmackDown, losing to a returning Shinsuke Nakamura.
