Butch Set To Return To WWE NXT

Butch aka Pete Dunne

Butch is the latest member of the main roster to return to NXT.

The brawling Brute has been announced for the NXT Global Heritage Invitational Tournament, where the winner will go on to challenge Noam Dar for the Heritage Cup at No Mercy on September 30th.

As noted on WWE’s website, the rules of the tournament are as follows:

The NXT Global Heritage Invitational will be a Round Robin Style Tournament featuring two groups with four Superstars in each group. Matches will have a 12-minute limit, and pinfalls and submissions victories will earn a Superstar two points, while a 12-minute draw will earn both Superstars one point.

The winner of Group A will face the winner of Group B on the Sept. 26 edition of NXT, and the winner of that match will face Noam Dar for the Heritage Cup on Sept. 30th at NXT No Mercy in Bakersfield, CA.

Butch joins Charlie Dempsey and Tyler Bate in Block A and Joe Coffey, Duke Hudson and Nathan Frazer are the names announced so far for Block B. One more Superstar is set to join each block.

The tournament begins on Tuesday, August 29th.

Butch Hopes To Replicate Previous NXT Success

While the man formerly known as Pete Dunne has yet to taste championship success on the main roster, The Bruiserweight has previously won titles in NXT and NXT UK. Prior to the move to the American version of the brand, Dunne was the second-ever United Kingdom Champion, holding the title for 685 days. Transitioning to the Orlando branch of NXT, Dunne would team with Matt Riddle to form The BroserWeights. The duo would be victorious in the 2020 Dusty Tag Team Classic Tournament before defeating Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly to become the new Tag Team Champions.
