Tyler Breeze initially thought his match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn with Jushin Thunder Liger was a joke.
Retired Japanese legend Jushin Thunder Liger made a memorable WWE debut in 2015, stunning the audience at WWE NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn with his victory over Tyler Breeze. The event took place at the iconic Barclays Center, and over 15,000 fans were in attendance to witness the historic moment.
Tyler Breeze shared his initial disbelief upon learning about his opponent. In an interview on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling, Breeze revealed that he thought it was a joke when he first heard about the match.
I thought it was a joke at first because nobody would really tell me, I think at that point, I’d wrestled basically everybody. I’d been on almost every TakeOver wrestling everybody.
Having wrestled almost everyone on the roster, he didn’t expect to be featured on the prestigious TakeOver event. However, Finn Bálor, who had trained under Liger and had a connection with the Japanese legend, informed Breeze about the match.
Breeze admitted feeling perplexed initially, but Bálor assured him that the match against Liger was indeed happening. Breeze’s excitement grew as he realised the magnitude of the opportunity to face a wrestling icon like Liger. He later received confirmation from WWE management about his match with Liger a couple of weeks later.
