Jon Moxley Admits He Was “In A Bad Place” Going Into Rehab

Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley currently stands the top of All Elite Wrestling after enjoying what has arguably been the best year of his entire career.

The star is the current AEW World Champion, a feat which made him the first three-time champion in company history. In the process he has competed against come of the biggest names that AEW has to offer in the form of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.

In recent weeks Moxley signed a new five-year deal with the company which will now keep him tied exclusively to AEW and their partners until at least 2027. The new agreement will also see Moxley take on an expanded role as a coach and mentor.

Jon Moxley – “I Was All F*cked Up”

What’s even more impressive is that Moxley has accomplished all of these goals in the ring after facing down a number of challenges outside of it. In November 2021 the World Champion entered a rehabilitation facility to treat issues with alcohol. Moxley returned to action just three months later.

Speaking in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Moxley said that he originally thought out becoming a freelance performer when he AEW deal expired while revealing just how much he was struggling before seeking help.

“A year ago, I wasn’t in the same head space,” Moxley says. “I was all f*cked up. I hated traveling. I was living in Vegas, felt like I was always in an airport, flying coast to coast, and I was sick of leaving my family. I thought about freelancing when my deal was up. Not that I would leave AEW, but I didn’t want to be there every week. I was in a bad place.

Then I went to rehab and all that, and now I’m in a totally different headspace. We’re living in Cincinnati, too, which is great. I look forward to going to TV every week. I get to see my friends in the Blackpool Combat Club. I’m not f*cked up. I have a clean headspace. My life is completely different than it was a year ago, and all for the better.”

Moxley’s wife Renee Paquette has since joined him in AEW, making her debut in Toronto on October 12th. Jon Moxley will be back in action on the October 18th edition of Dynamite when he defends his AEW World Title against Hangman Adam Page.
