On May 27th 1996 Scott Hall arrived on WCW Nitro completely unannounced, kicking off one of the biggest and most famous storylines in wrestling history. Hall was soon joined by fellow ex-WWE star Kevin Nash and at Bash At The Beach, the New World Order of professional wrestling was born as Hulk Hogan joined forces with the duo.
The faction quickly grew in strength and numbers, and eventually subdivisions and new branches of the group were also created. This meant that at one time or another a vast majority of the WCW roster spent time decked out in the famous black and white.
However, one man who remained away from the group was Booker T, this is despite him eventually growing to become one of the biggest stars in the company.
Kevin Nash On Why Booker T Said “F*ck No” To The nWo
During a recent episode of his Kilq This podcast, Nash discussed how hard he, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman worked during this period to make the nWo a success. Nash noted Booker T was actually asked to join the group, but turned the opportunity down. Big Sexy claimed Booker T told him they work too much.
“I remember when we asked Booker T to join the NWO, he said ‘F**k no, man. You guys work too much,'”
Booker T did eventually join a version of the nWo but not until the group was part of WWE in 2002. By that stage the faction was made up of Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Sean Waltman and Big Show. When Flair recruited Booker the group quickly got frustrated with the star and he was removed via a Superkick from Shawn Michaels.
Michaels himself had only joined up with the faction a week earlier. Despite these efforts to try and kickstart a new era for the nWo, the group disbanded just a month later.
