Rey Mysterio has spoken out about when he plans to retire from professional wrestling.
At 44 years of age, the luchador has just about seen and done it all in the industry that made him a star. The masked marvel has been WCW and WWE Cruiserweight Champion, WWE Intercontinental Champion, WWE Champion and WWE World Heavyweight Champion to name just a few of his accolades.
He’s competed for every major promotion in the world and has endured long enough to see his son Dominik lace up a pair of boots in preparation to carry on his legacy.
Now, Rey Mysterio has begun to contemplate retirement and joined Lilian Garcia on the Chasing Glory Podcast to reveal when he plans on stepping away from the squared circle and hanging up his infamous mask:
“I’ll be 45 in December. And I don’t see myself going past 50, that’s for sure. My body feels great right now. I’ve been doing new methods of therapy – STEM cells, hyperbaric chambers, cryo chambers, CBD’s, you know, a lot of things that benefit me. I think that has given me more longevity.”
Garcia pushed the envelope further by asking Mysterio whether he aims to end his career in WWE. To that question, Mysterio gave an emphatical yes:
“Definitely, yes. Once you enter here, you can’t go any higher than this. This is where I’ve always envisioned myself finishing my career.”
With Mysterio putting five more years on his career as a professional wrestler, the questioning turned to who the Mexican would like to retire him. While there are many possibilities, he was quizzed on if there was any possibility it could be his son:
“Um, I really haven’t put thought to it, no, There are a lot of choices, though.”
Barring any major mishap, it looks as if we have a few more years to wonder at his offence and enjoy the twilight years of arguably the greatest high flyer to ever come off of a top rope.
When he does retire, a place in the WWE Hall of Fame is surely guaranteed.
