WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle believes he should have received a short run with the WWE World or Universal Title after he returned to WWE in 2017.
Angle had previously wrestled in WWE from 1999-2006, winning five World titles in the company.
The 51 year old, revealed on the WWE Network exclusive, The Broken Skull Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin, that he was disappointed he did not receive an opportunity to win another World crown following his return:
“I wanted to do what Goldberg did. Have quick [world] title run, main event – we’re gone. That wasn’t in the plans because whenever I did wrestle, I was getting my ass beat.”
The 1996 Olympic Gold Medallist was installed instead, as General Manager of Raw on April 3, 2017, the night after WrestleMania 33.
Angle did not wrestle in WWE post-return, until the TLC pay-per-view on October 22, 2017, when he was a late replacement for Roman Reigns, in a tag team encounter, pitting him and The Shield versus Kane, The Miz, Braun Strowman, Cesaro and Sheamus.
However, despite, receiving one more in-ring run in WWE, it didn’t work out the way Angle had hoped. He explained that even his retirement match was not what he had originally planned for himself:
“When I wrestled Baron Corbin, I would have preferred Stone Cold, The Rock or John Cena, but, ya know, Baron was a good kid. Tough worker, great guy, but to have that as my retirement match… it was a little bit, hmmm.”
Angle added:
“They never treated me the same way they did the first time.”
Despite Angle’s disappointment with his WWE return, one cannot argue that the former WWE Champion had an amazing run in the company and is remembered as one of the all time greats.
