10 Bell Salute Opener, AEW Talent Pay Tribute To Brodie Lee Throughout The Show

  • The entire roster, Tony Khan and Brodie Lee’s family appear on stage as we get a 10 Bell Salute for Brodie.
  • Jon Moxley pays tribute to Brodie after the salute and says he hopes this brings people together to appreciate what they have.
  • Darby Allin says Brodie was the #1 guy on his list of people he wanted to wrestle and that he cherished that Brodie was all about lifting others up.
  • Dax, Arn, Colt and Bryce Remsburg all talk about Brodie’s fun-loving attitude backstage and his dedication to his kids.
  • Kingston reminds -1 that as long as Brodie’s lessons live within him, Lee will never truly be gone.
  • Jericho recalls a story of Brodie knowing a mark on Jericho’s hotel ceiling was an arrow pointing to Mecca and how Brodie was super intelligent. He promises Brodie that his family will be taken care of.

Analysis: Thank you Brodie Lee.

The Young Bucks & Colt Cabana defeat Matt Hardy & Private Party via Pinfall in 15:31

  • Young Bucks & Cabana make their way to the ring in Brodie Lee shirts as Cabana & Kassidy start off. Cabana strikes Kassidy to the canvas before he tags in Quen.
  • Young Bucks tag in and take all three of their opponents down to the outside before Cabana hits a springboard moonsault onto the congregation.
  • Hardy & Private Party take control of the match, isolating Matt Jackson in their corner to prevent a tag to his partners. The trio attempt a series of offence but Jackson hits a Twist of Fate on Hardy to tag Cabana.
  • Cabana takes down both of Private Party with a Bionic Elbow and another springboard moonsault.
  • Hardy gets pushed into Quen, stunning him on the top rope. Nick Jackson hits a top rope hurricanrana before tagging in. He attempts to start a comeback before being taken down temporarily by Hardy.
  • Private Party manage to hit Gin & Juice on Nick before hitting a Swanton Bomb/Shooting Star Press for a near-fall. Matt brings up a chair tries to give it to Quen, but Quen denies it.
  • The Bucks hit the Indytaker on Quen before Cabana rolls him up with a Superman Pin for the 3-count.
  • After the match, The Acclaimed interrupt and are about to insult Dark Order but SCU throw them into the ring, allowing the Bucks to hit a double Superkick before Cabana took them down with a Bionic Elbow.

Analysis: An awesome opener to kick off the show, featuring Colt Cabana’s best AEW performance yet. Up till now, it seems as if Cabana had been holding back somewhat – due to the sheltered storyline he was a part of with The Dark Order – but I’m glad they’re finally letting him loose. Private Party also got a great showing along with some dissension and miscommunication teased with their mentor Hardy.

Lance Archer & The Dark Order defeat Eddie Kingston, The Butcher & The Blade via Pinfall in 9:40

  • Before the match, Kingston says he loves Brodie but he wanted to prove that the Dark Order is nothing without him. Uno attacks him before the bell in retaliation.
  • Grayson beats down Kingston in the corner before The Bunny trips Grayson up, allowing Kingston’s team to take control. The three continually tag in and out before Blade gets a 1-count after pinfall.
  • Grayson hits a Brodie-esque Bossman Slam and tags out to Uno who hits a Swanton Bomb for a near-fall. Kingston beats down Uno before tagging in Blade, who keeps up the assault.
  • Uno and Kingston get into a striking exchange before Uno gains the upper hand with a half-and-half suplex. Archer and Blade tags in, Blade attempts some offence but Archer shrugs it off before attempting the Chokeslam which Blade avoids.
  • Archer hits a springboard moonsault and a frog splash after Uno & Grayson hit a tag combination for a nearfall.
  • Archer attempts the Blackout on Blade but Kingston saves his partner before the two brawl to the outside. Grayson takes down Butcher with a DDT onto the apron before hitting the Fatality with Uno to pick up the win.
  • After the match, Archer, Grayson & Uno each strike Kingston before Jake Roberts hits a short-arm clothesline

Analysis: Another really great showing for members of the Dark Order, this time Uno & Grayson. I think a lot of people either forgot or haven’t seen, how great these two gel as a team. Archer pulled out some stunning offence in his Luke Harper-inspired attire, at one point hitting a springboard moonsault off the top rope! Two matches in and we’ve already had two great performances from Dark Order, hope tonight ends up being a turning point for the group.

Hangman Page & Dark Order defeat The Inner Circle via Pinfall in 12:42

  • Silver & Reynolds throw Brodie’s trademark papers from BTE at Inner Circle before MJF yells at -1 Inner Circle work over Reynolds, who eventually tags in Hangman Page.
  • Page takes down Santana & Ortiz from the apron before hitting a fallaway slam on MJF. Hangman attempts the Buckshot Lariat but MJF escapes the ring. Santana & Ortiz hang Page up before hitting a swinging cutter combination for a near-fall.
  • Inner Circle keep Page in their corner, with MJF illegally hitting Page behind the referee’s back. MJF goes to shout at -1 but Page takes him down and takes down Silver.
  • Silver takes down all of Inner Circle before hitting a diving crossbody and sit-out powerbomb on Ortiz for a near-fall. Everyone gets a big move in before MJF hits the Heatseeker DDT on Silver and Ortiz hits a powerbomb. Reynolds breaks up the ensuing pinfall attempt.
  • Wardlow enters the ring and hits Reynolds with a lariat before Erick Redbeard appears and chases him off!
  • MJF takes -1’s mask off but -1 finally retaliates with a kendo stick shot. Silver hits Brodie’s discus lariat to pick up the win.
  • After the match Page, Redbeard, Silver & Reynolds all embrace as Rowan holds up a sign saying “Goodbye for now, my brother.”

Analysis: In-CREDIBLE match! From Redbeard appearing, -1 laying out MJF with a kendo stick shot and Silver getting the pin with a Discus lariat, this was super eventful onto of just being a really great match. MJF played the heel masterfully, being the only competitor so far to NOT wear a Brodie Lee tribute armband and continually baiting -1 before getting his comeuppance. Silver looked incredible and I would love to see more from him as a single competitor!

Anna Jay & Tay Conti defeat Britt Baker & Penelope Ford via Pinfall in 10:04

  • Jay gets the better of Baker in their opening exchange before Baker quickly tags out to Ford. Conti tags in but gets overwhelmed by Baker attacking her behind the referee’s back, allowing the heels to take control.
  • Ford & Baker beat down Conti, keeping her away from her corner. At one point, Ford hits a springboard knee drop onto the apron which Baker capitalises on for a near-fall.
  • Conti eventually creates an opening after both she and Ford take each other out with a double bicycle kick before tagging in Jay. Baker also tags in and Jay takes down Baker. Conti hits her swinging slam before being taken out by Baker.
  • Anna hits a high kick on Baker and wells up thinking about Brodie, allowing Baker to capitalise. She drives her into the middle turnbuckle and Ford hits a blockbuster for a near-fall.
  • Ford tries for a springboard elbow but Anna locks in the Queenslayer sleeper hold to pick up the win.
  • After the match, Baker calls Tony to the ring to say the whole match was “a big rig” before Thunder Rosa rushed the ring to attack Britt. The two are separated by officials.

Analysis: Fun match that really showed off how smooth Anna Jay has become in such a short time. Both Jay and Conti looked great here, with Baker and Ford taking most of the offence to make their opponents look all the better. Anna picked up (what I believe is) her very first win on AEW Dynamite in what I hope will be the start of more regular TV appearances from her. Glad we got some storyline progression on the show though as Rosa continued her campaign to shut Britt Baker up.

Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy & 10 defeat Team Taz via Pinfall in 11:35

  • Before the match, Bryce Remsburg begins tearing up and Cody hugs him before the bell is rung.
  • Hobbs easily overpowers Cody before 10 tags in. He gets a little offence in before Cassidy squares off against his powerful foe. Hobbs teases and test of strength but Cassidy just taunts him by putting his hands in his pockets.
  • Cassidy does his usual INSANE OFFENCE of very light superkicks before turning serious, going for an Orange Punch early before Hobbs counters with a spinning powerslam.
  • Team Taz continue to overpower Cassidy, keeping him around their side of the ring whilst constantly tagging each other in.
  • Cassidy creates an opening for himself after Starks tries for a Stalling Suplex and gets a hot tag to Cody. Cody takes down Starks before tagging in 10 who hits a Brodie Bomb but Starks hits a spear for a near-fall.
  • Everyone gets a big move, leaving 10 and Starks in the ring and Taz & Arn tease fighting with chairs. Cassidy hits Orange Punch, Cody hits the Cross Rhodes and 10 hits his spinebuster to pick up the win.
  • After the match, Team Taz attack the winners before the lights go out and Darby Allin, alongside Sting, makes the save. Team Taz stare down Cody, Darby, Sting, 10 and Arn.

Analysis: A good match though maybe not as strong as some earlier on in the show. 10 got a good showing and a huge rub by getting the win after Cassidy & Cody hit their finishers. As I said last week, I’m not a massive fan of us STILL just getting Sting coming out and staring Team Taz down like he has been for almost a month now but I think it can be forgiven this week, considering the tribute show circumstances.

One Final Tribute To The Exalted One

  • Cody gets on the mic and pays one final tribute to Brodie, calling him a beautiful man before bringing out -1.
  • -1 comes out to Brodie’s theme and leaves his father’s boots in the ring before handing -1 Brodie’s TNT Championship. Tony introduces on final tribute video to Brodie.
  • We see highlights from Brodie’s AEW career, as well as photos from his life outside the ring.

Analysis: Thank you Jon.

And that was this week’s AEW Dynamite!

Simply put, AEW knocked it clean out of the park. On top of the emotional rollercoaster of paying tribute to Brodie, this week’s episode was also just a FANTASTIC episode in its own right. Every member of the Dark Order benefitted, showing themselves off better than they’ve ever been – John Silver, Anna Jay & Colt Cabana in particular. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a renesance for Dark Order as all of them put on incredibly impressive performances tonight.
