Jerry Lawler Challenges The Miz To A WWE Championship Rematch

Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler has sent out a challenge to The Miz to put his newly won WWE Championship on the line against him in a rematch ten years in the making.

On February 20, 2011, the legendary Jerry Lawler laced up his boots for a WWE Championship Match against The Miz at Elimination Chamber. In a bout which almost handed the wrestling royalty his first piece of WWE gold, Lawler managed to nail the champion with his patented second-rope fist drop only for ‘The A-Lister’ to break the fall with a foot on the rope.

Though ‘The King’ came up short in his royal quest for gold, it would appear he’s been biding his time until the star reigned again and at the 2021 Elimination Chamber on February 21 Lawler got his wish when The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on a beaten and broken Drew McIntyre to capture his second WWE Championship following a thunderous Skull Crushing Finale.

Witnessing his old rival reclaim the gold, Jerry Lawler took to Twitter to issue an immediate challenge to the star for a rematch that he’s been waiting for for a decade:

“Almost ten years ago, to the day, at #eliminationchamber2011 I wrestled @mikethemiz for the @WWE Title…I think it’s time for the rematch.”

Still an active performer outside of WWE, Jerry Lawler last stepped into the ring on February 6, 2021, for USA Championship Wrestling but hasn’t competed in a WWE ring since September 10, 2012, when he teamed with Randy Orton to face Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk on Monday Night Raw.

The same night as final WWE match, Jerry Lawler suffered a heart attack while serving on commentary but made a full recovery and was cleared to continue competing.
