Kurt Angle has spoken about John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield’s antics backstage and says the WWE Hall Of Famer would rib people and made life on the road entertaining.
Angle was discussing his rookie year in WWE on The Kurt Angle Show podcast. As a newcomer to the company, Angle was asked by co-host Conrad Thompson if anyone had played any jokes, or ribs on him.
Thompson would bring up JBL’s name as the former WWE Champion has a reputation backstage for jokes and, allegedly, going too far with them on occasion.
Angle explained what JBL was like backstage:
“JBL just, he verbally ribbed everybody. He didn’t do a lot of ribs, but he was very vocal, and you know, he was a bit of a bully. I mean, He’s harmless; he doesn’t mean to be offensive.”
“He just has that personality, where, you know, he needs to rib on someone, pick on someone, about something, you know, he was entertaining though. It wasn’t really a bad thing, it was actually a good thing that he did. It made our days on the road a lot more entertaining that he was ribbing people. He is the one guy that is going to bust everybody’s balls.”
Kurt Angle and JBL shared the ring at the 2005 Royal Rumble in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. JBL retained his title after hitting Angle with the Clothesline From Hell. At WrestleMania 21 that year JBL lost his title to John Cena.
Angle also revealed his original choice for an opponent at WrestleMania 22. At the event Angle would lose his World Heavyweight Title to Rey Mysterio. However, if the Olympic gold medallist had his way, he would have been part of an unprecedented Streak.
