Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton Share Touching Moment Following WWE Survivor Series

What Did Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton Say To Each Other At WWE Survivor Series?

Fans were delighted to see Randy Orton make his WWE return at Survivor Series and especially delighted to see him team with former protégée Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes would reveal during the post show press conference that he and ‘The Viper’ shared a touching moment following the shows main event.

Rhodes noted:

“At the end of the match, Randy said to me, ‘Thanks for the phone call.’ And I wanted to tell him ‘Thanks for my career.’ I keep thinking this is going to end and I couldn’t have gotten to where I got had I not been around Randy. Randy is so wild and chaotic and you hear all these funny stories about him and all this nonsense, but as a performer, a professional wrestler, WWE superstar. What an outstanding mentor he was to me truly.”

Rhodes would continue by looking back fondly on his friendship with Orton and how he always looked up to The Viper:

“I’ll never forget standing in the ring at the Royal Rumble when he won, pointing at the star WrestleMania sign and just thinking, ‘I want to be like him.’ That’s [as] nice as I’m gonna get about [him]. I was really touched.”

Road Dogg

Road Dogg Claims Motor City Machine Guns Would Have Been "A Perfect Fit" In WWE

Wardlow and FTR vs. Jay Lethal and Motor City Machine Guns AEW All Out

The Motor City Machine guns are widely regarded as the best tag team to never appear in the WWE.

But, according to WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg they would have been “a perfect fit” for the company had they ever made the jump.

Speaking on Oh…You Didn’t Know, Road Dogg was asked which TNA stars from his time with the company is he shocked never made it to the WWE.

“Abyss is of course the first one that comes to mind.

But I think Kurt Angle surprised me [laughs].

No, I don’t know. A lot of great talent came through there. But I feel like all of them had opportunities at other places too.

But I thought about this the other day, actually. The Motor City Machine Guns. As a team, I think they would fit perfect, and I think they’d be good WWE superstars.

I don’t know how old they are now and if they’re ready still to run that kind of schedule. But I thought they would have been…I loved working with them when I was there because I knew they were the future, and I knew I was already the past. I wasn’t even the present anymore.

So it was really fun to get to work with those guys. So they’re some that I’m surprised that never [got an opportunity]. I say they didn’t make it anywhere big, but they’ve made a career out of wrestling on the independent circuit or Japan or whatever. So I’m short-changing them and I don’t mean to be.”

Taylor Swift Forces Changes To AEW All In

Tony Khan Asked To Make AEW All In Changes To Allow For More Taylor Swift Shows

When I started writing about wrestling I never imagined Taylor Swift would be someone I needed to know about for the job.

But, thanks to AEW All In and Taylor Swift’s sold out Wembley performances needs must.

As seen on the Wembley Stadium website, All In takes place on August 25th 2024 and follows 5 sold-out Taylor Swift shows that will take place from August 15-20th. However, two of the shows were only added recently due to Khan making changes to his own set-up.

Speaking with The Daily Mail, Khan reveals that he was approached to load in the equipment needed for AEW All In faster so that the extra shows would be possible.

The AEW President stated that he was happy to oblige and feels honoured to be following Taylor Swift in London.

Key Decision Makers In CM Punk's WWE Return Revealed

The 2023 WWE Survivor Series logo with CM Punk placed on top of the image.

It has been unthinkable for well over a decade that CM Punk would ever return to the WWE.

That was until Survivor Series 2023.

But who had the key say in welcoming CM Punk back into the company he once labelled cancerous?

Writing in his Daily Update, Dave Meltzer noted the key individuals responsible for the return, most shockingly revealing that former WWE owner Vince McMahon had no say in the matter.

Meltzer notes:

“Nick Khan was the key decision maker in this. Vince McMahon is not involved in that aspect of the business any longer and it was now up to Khan and Paul Levesque.

Whether that did or didn’t change the dynamic we don’t know, but from a pure business standpoint it made sense to do it last night the way it was done.”

Randy Orton

Triple H Heaps Praise On Randy Orton

Randy Orton doing his signature pose during a WWE live event

Although CM Punk may be stealing the spotlight, he was not the only major return at Survivor Series 2023.

During the shows main event Randy Orton made his much anticipated return to the ring after over a year out with a career-threatening injury.

Speaking on Orton’s return during the WWE post show press conference, Triple H heaped praise on ‘The Viper’s’ performance and his resilience in the face of adversary.

“Just incredibly proud of Randy Orton, and when you have the kind of injury he had where things are touch and go, I’ve been there. Where they tell you, ‘You might never do this again.’ That’s a rough experience to be on the fight back. What he went through, to be able to have what he had done, and to be able to come back here tonight and have the moment that he had was just awesome.

I’m so happy for him to come here, do what he did tonight, and it sounds silly, but as it being WarGames, sort of the pressure being off him a little bit to come back and be able to just be Randy Orton and do what he needs to do.”

WWE Sets Massive Survivor Series Record

The 2023 WWE Survivor Series logo with CM Punk placed on top of the image.

Survivor Series was an overwhelming success for the WWE well before CM Punk make his shock return to the company.

Speaking at the press conference after Survivor Series, Triple H touted the success of the event, both financially and in terms of overall viewership, which only grew as the night went on:

“Tonight was the highest-grossing Survivor Series in history.

As a matter of fact, the highest-grossing event here with the exception of WrestleMania [22].

It was neck and neck with WrestleMania but that is something special here.

37 years of Survivor Series, to be the biggest one ever.

Sponsorship is up 25% from last year, then the viewership, just spectacular tonight.

We opened up the show with the Women’s WarGames match. Right out of the gate by far the largest viewership of all time and it just grew throughout the evening.

We don’t have the final numbers yet but we will, and this one was a whopper.”

Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle Set To Undergo Surgery

Kurt Angle may have broken his neck for the first time in 1996 but the injury is still having a knock on effect to this day.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show, the Hall of Famer detailed how he is having issues with his grip and how he requires further neck surgery to improve this and his circulation:

““Just so you know, I’m having neck surgery [at the] beginning of next year.

They’re going to put in artificial disc replacements and it’s going to help [his hands]. I can’t really grab things and things always slip out of my hands and fall.

I have horrible motor skills. My arms, they actually atrophied three inches each, and I don’t have any muscle [between his thumb and finger], this is completely flat.

They’re supposed to be muscle in there but it deteriorated. Atrophied. So when I get these rubber discs or disc replacements, they’re going to open up the nerves so they can go down my arm so I can have better circulation.”

Tony Khan Breaks Silence On CM Punk's WWE Return

Tony Khan Praises AEW Pillar: "It's Been One Of The Most Special Things I've Been A Part Of"

CM Punk’s shock WWE return at Survivor Series had wrestling fans across the globe talking…even Tony Khan.

The AEW owner was asked about CM Punk’s return during a recent interview with BBC West Midlands.

The interview, intended to promote AEW’s return to London in 2024, saw Khan asked what he thought of former ‘Real AEW World Champion’ returning to the WWE.

Khan, not attempting to the duck the question, explained that he legally cannot comment on that at this time and that he doesn’t think it is the time or the place to do so.

“Can’t talk about that nor do I think it’s the time or the place.

But I appreciate you asking and I am really excited about AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. Not to dodge or duck your question, it’s just not something I can legally talk about.”

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre Responds To Reports He Stormed Out of Survivor Series

WWE Hall Of Famer Believes Drew McIntyre Did Not Connect As A Babyface Champion

Seth Rollins was not the only WWE star furious at the end of Survivor Series 2023.

It was reported that following the main event of Survivor Series Drew McIntyre stormed backstage before throwing on a hoodie and storming out of the Allstate Arena.

During last night’s WWE Live Event in Peoria, Illinois, Drew McIntyre appeared on-screen to address his actions at Survivor Series.

McIntyre would comment:

“I didn’t win the World Title match recently. WarGames last night, my stupid team lost the match for me.

You’ve heard things probably on the internet. Not in a great place, but there is one thing that can turn frown upside down, that can change things for me, and it’s getting that World Title.

I can’t think of anywhere better than for Big D to finally raise his first world title in front of live fans than right here in Peoria, Illinois. Cheap pop.

I have a game plan. I’m going to take Shin’s [Shinsuke Nakamura’s] head and kick it like a field goal.

I’ve learn a lot about American football recently. With Seth, I’m going to break his back, make him humble, kick his arse, and take that World Title. Then, we’re having an afterparty, it’s going to be huge.” [h/t Fightful]

Drew McIntyre was then unsuccessful in his attempts to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after Seth Rollins defeat both McIntyre and Nakamura to retain in the shows main event.

Following the match Seth Rollins would send a scathing message to CM Punk.

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins Sends A Brutal Message To CM Punk

Seth Rollins making his entrance at WWE Survivor Series 2023

At Survivor Series 2023 CM Punk shocked the world by returning to the WWE.

Social media erupted with joy and surprise to see the former WWE Champion back in the company he once claimed destroyed his love of wrestling.

But, the reaction from WWE talent was much more surprising.

As CM Punk made his way down the Survivor Series entrance ramp WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins was caught erupting into anger with Michael Cole required to hold him back.

Now at a WWE live event in Peoria, Illinois, Seth Rollins sent a clear, scathing, message to CM Punk.

“Did you guys watch WarGames last night?

[crowd chants for ‘CM Punk’].

You already know how I feel about that, I said as much last night. I’m not going to waste any more breath on somebody who has been gone for eight years, has done nothing but try and tear this place down.

Instead, I’m going to take my time and use my breath on talking about the people who have been here all along.

That’s everybody in the back who has made WWE the hottest ticket in town. That’s every single one of you who are here tonight in Peoria.

I could end this on a sour note like that, but I don’t want to. You guys have some beautiful singing voices out there.

So instead of me hoop and hollering, what do you say you guys take us home? You got one more song in you?”
