Don Callis has made a brave vow that if AEW did not exist, then Kenny Omega would be property of IMPACT Wrestling.
Speaking with Fight Game Media, the Executive Vice President of IMPACT Wrestling spoke on how his friendship with the number one contender to the AEW World Heavyweight Championship would have secured them one of the biggest names in the world today:
“I’ll say this: If AEW had not come into play … Kenny Omega would have come into Impact Wrestling. Not that he ever agreed to it, but it’s something that Scott D’Amore and I would have made happen.”
Don Callis and Kenny Omega share a close relationship. It was Omega’s uncle that trained Callis for in-ring action and it was ‘The Cleaner’ who brought the former WWF and ECW talent to New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2015, where he served as commentator for Kenny’s Wrestle Kingdom XII bout against Chris Jericho.

Kenny Omega spoke about the bond the pair shared a while back and why he wanted him at ringside for what was called the most important bout of his career:
“Family connection aside, I knew Don and his perspective would be a fresh take on commentary for New Japan. As a huge fan of Japanese pro wrestling, one thing I knew couldn’t be touched was the passion of the Japanese commentary. Whether you understand the language or not you feel the passion for the matches they call. Don in the same way elevated all of my major performances in New Japan with moments that were just as special as the moves being performed in the ring. It’s all part of the production and part of what makes a good match a great match, or a great match, a classic.”
Don Callis recently made an appearance for AEW to again serve as commentator for Kenny Omega vs. ‘Hangman’ Adam Page at AEW Full Gear.
Kenny Omega will now challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on the December 2 AEW Dynamite.
