The ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event has undergone significant changes due to a combination of SAG-AFTRA strikes and wrestler injuries, forcing Tony Khan to change his plans.
ROH and AEW President Tony Khan had set the initial lineup for the event which was set to feature a blockbuster match between Eddie Kingston and Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Championship.
However, plans took a different turn when Kingston was offered the opportunity to take part in NJPW’s G1 Climax, which Khan allowed Kingston to do.
This forced Khan to switch his plans and he decided that Mark Briscoe would be the one to challenge Castagnoli for the title. However, due to a knee injury, Briscoe had to be pulled from the match. According to a report from Fightful Select, the ROH officials were made aware of this injury a few weeks prior.
After this confirmation, it was then announced on the July 19th AEW Dynamite that PAC would face Castagnoli at ROH Death Before Dishonor for the title.
How Has The SAG-AFTRA Strikes Impacted ROH?
Samoa Joe was planning to take some time off from both ROH and AEW to promote the new Twisted Metal series in which Joe is portraying the character, Sweet Tooth. Fortunately for wrestling fans, Joe’s plans changed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which caused his other commitments to be cancelled.
As a result, the match initially scheduled for the PPV, between Shane Taylor and Dalton Castle, which was a final in the ROH World Television Championship Eliminator Tournament, was pushed up to the July 20th episode of ROH on HonorClub.
Castle won that match and is now set to face Joe for the title at Death Before Dishonor.
