BJ Whitmer Indicted On Strangulation Charge Following Domestic Violence Arrest

BJ Whitmer

BJ Whitmer is charged with two felonies following a domestic violence arrest in June.

Whitmer, a former ROH star turned AEW producer has been indicted on a first-degree charge of strangulation and a second-degree charge of burglary, both of which are class C felonies (h/t to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful).

Following his arrest, Whitmer was released from AEW and the company is continuing to work with the victim, who has an EPO in place (emergency protective order).

Whitmer’s hearing took place on September 6 and now he has a pre-trial hearing set for October 4.

BJ Whitmer Is One Of Few Talents To Be Swiftly Released From AEW

Considering the severity of the charges levied against Whitmer, it makes sense that AEW would severe ties with him rather quickly. In the past, the company has rarely fired talent outright. Jimmy Havoc, who was accused of sexual assault during the Speaking Out movement in 2020, was suspended and sent to treatment following the allegations. After he finished his treatment, AEW released Havoc, which also took place in 2020.

Akin to Havoc, Whitmer was with AEW since the inception of the company back in 2019 and served as a producer before his termination on June 12, 2023.

Whitmer was a four-time ROH Tag Team Champion during his years with the company, winning the belts both two times with Dan Maff and Jimmy Jacobs. The latter has become a strong assistant to Tony Khan, someone who was suggested to the AEW President, Bryan Danielson. Jacobs is said to be the type of person to keep up with Khan’s hectic schedule.
