Ex-WWE Writer Used Top Stars To Voice Frustrations With Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon WWE

Vince McMahon had ruled the WWE Universe with his own particular brand of micro-management for over 40 years until he announced his retirement from the company to much shock in July 2022.

McMahon’s retirement may not have exactly come as his own choice as it came amid investigations into sexual misconduct allegations made against him as well as millions of dollars worth of hush money payments paid to former WWE employees. Triple H replaced his father-in-law as the creative force of the company as the Chief Content Officer while Stephanie McMahon became WWE Chairwoman.

Brian Gewirtz explains how he aired his issues with Vince McMahon

Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz has detailed his own career, including his own run-ins with Vince McMahon in his book There’s Just One Problem…: True Tales from the Former, One-Time, 7th Most Powerful Person in WWE. Gewirtz admits that there were times during his tenure in WWE when he’d use the company’s biggest stars to air his frustrations with McMahon:

“I certainly couldn’t say highly insulting, flat-out disrespectful things to the man who signed my paychecks, but The Rock, Chris Jericho, John Cena, and plenty of others could. I’ll admit it— there were times when I got upset with Vince, I just bit my tongue and had a character express what I was feeling live on the air. It was a warped but very effective form of therapy.”

Vince McMahon was in charge of WWE during some of the company’s edgier and more risque storylines. McMahon also is blamed for some of the more notorious storylines in the company’s history with current AEW star Matt Hardy recently discussing some which he found to be “in bad taste.”

While McMahon has steered clear of the limelight since his retirement, a former long-time employee of his recently called for the ex-WWE Chairman to be given a grand send-off by the company, possibly at WrestleMania.
