John Cena is set for a new role in his acting career as he will share the screen with Zac Efron in a new comedy movie that will be filmed in Melbourne, Australia in the new year.
The movie follows Zac Efron starring in a film based on the life of the famed Texas wrestling family, the Von Erichs. Efron will portray Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw.
John Cena heading Down Under
John Cena and Zac Efron will be heading to Melbourne in February 2023 to film new comedy movie, Ricky Stanicky. The synopsis for the film on IMBD paints an amusing picture of the film:
“When three teens pull a prank and burn down a house in their neighborhood, they create a fake person to take the blame — Ricky Stanicky did it! Twenty years later we see that they have been using this alibi to get out of every uncomfortable situation in life. When their wives force them to set up a meeting with Stanicky, they hire an actor.”
The director for the picture is Peter Farrelly who is known for directing hit comedy films There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, and Me, Myself & Irene.
John Cena has made a name for himself in Hollywood since winding down his in-ring career in WWE. Cena’s last televised bout in the company came at SummerSlam 2021 when he unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.
The sixteen-time champion of the world has been rumoured to be in the mix for a potential WrestleMania match when the event takes place in Inglewood, California in April 2023. While that remains uncertain, John Cena has been advertised to appear on the final SmackDown of 2022 which will take place in Tampa, Florida.
This will be only the second appearance for Cena this year in WWE as he appeared on the June 27 episode of Monday Night Raw to celebrate his 20-year anniversary as a WWE Superstar. During that appearance, Cena did not state when his next match would be but he did promise to have more than one match left in him.
