Vince McMahon presided over many dream matches during his forty years of booking WWE bouts but there was one such match that he never wanted to see.
The one glaring certainty about factions in wrestling is that sooner or later they will split up and, all being well, have some epic matches between themselves. The bloody battles between Shawn Michaels and Triple H, the incredible rise of Batista as he outgrew Evolution, and the many wars between all three members of The Shield are just some examples.
But there is a dream match in the women’s division that fans wanted for years and it was made all the more interesting by the fact that the women involved are considered a group but were never presented on TV that way.
Vince McMahon Never Wanted The Ultimate Four Horsewomen Match
The Four Horsewomen of WWE are perhaps the crowning achievement of the black and gold era of NXT. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Sasha Banks have all had unprecedented success in WWE with Flair, Banks, and Lynch also holding the distinction of having headlined a WrestleMania.
However, despite the thrills, spills, title wins, and fallouts of their time on the WWE main roster, fans never got to see a four-way match between the Horsewomen and now likely never will due to Banks leaving the company and reinventing herself as Mercedes Mone.
Speaking on the Public Enemies Podcast, former WWE writer Chris Dunn suggested that a four-way match between the Horswomen was never something Vince McMahon wanted to happen:
“I don’t think Vince was ever on board with it. I think others in the company were. I think it probably could’ve ended up happening eventually, but it wasn’t anything ever really on the docket. I think some people really wanted it to happen and build towards it, but I feel like if everyone was still with the company now, it definitely would’ve.”
Becky Lynch and Bayley are on a collision course to meet in their postponed cage match on the 6th of February edition of Raw. While Charlotte Flair now knows she will have her hands full at WrestleMania 39 as she puts her SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against 2023 women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley.
