Finn Balor Targeting Championship Gold To Join Exclusive WWE Club

Finn Balor at WWE SummerSlam

Finn Balor has set his sights on winning World Tag Team Championship gold.

At SummerSlam, Finn Balor missed out on winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the second time in as many months. After being defeated by Seth Rollins at Money in The Bank, Balor sought revenge at the summer spectacular, not only for that loss but for his defeat and injury suffered against Rollins at the same event seven years earlier.

However, it wasn’t meant to be for Balor as tensions between the Judgment Day rose once more. The Irish star’s career has gone from strength to strength since joining the group, as well as taking Dominik Mysterio, Rhea Ripley, and Damian Priest to a whole new level.

Speaking to Bill Apter and Dr. Chris Featherstone on Sportskeeda’s WrestleBinge, Balor said the group had changed Mysterio completely.

“When Dominik came to the Judgment Day, he was merely a boy. But now, trust me, he is a man,”

When asked about a potential tag team run with Priest, Balor said he’d be open to winning the gold with either him or Dominik.

“Yeah, either with Damian or with Dom, it don’t matter. But I think if I was tag team champion, I would then be a grand slam champion. So that is something that I hope is on the horizon,”

Should Balor win the Tag Team Titles he’ll become only the 18th WWE Superstar to be a Grand Slam Champion. To date, there have been 22 individual champions across two variations of the feat going back to 1997. Seven wrestlers achieved the feat under its original iteration between 1997 and 2000 and ten more under the modern format. Five have achieved the milestone under both.

At present, this includes the World Championship, Tag Team Championship, Intercontinental Title, and United States Title.

Did Finn Balor Even Want To Join Judgment Day?

While Judgment has been an undoubted success, speaking to Inside The Ropes ahead of SummerSlam, Finn Balor revealed he was hesitant to be part of another faction. Balor famously enjoyed an incredible amount of success in Japan as one of the founding members of Bullet Club.
