Reason Behind Orange Cassidy's Shock AEW Title Win Revealed

Orange Cassidy became an unlikely champion on October 10th.

Despite defeating Rey Fenix to become a two-time International Champion on Title Tuesday, Cassidy was never originally scheduled to be a part of the match, as Jon Moxley was the originally announced opponent. Following on from the multiple unscheduled title switches, new information has come to light regarding the original plans.

According to Fightful Select, Jon Moxley was not initially supposed to lose the championship at Grand Slam. However, due to an injury sustained during the title match inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, an audible was called to crown Rey Fenix as the new champion.

Originally, there were plans for Moxley to regain the title in a rematch on October 10th, but the former champion was still not cleared to compete at that time. It is also worth noting that Orange Cassidy was not the originally planned opponent for Title Tuesday, but whoever competed in the match was set to become the new International Champion.

Sources close to Fenix have revealed that the former champion is facing visa issues that will force him off of TV until further notice. The report concludes by confirming that Fenix was never set to be International Champion.
