Hangman Adam Page Vs Bryan Danielson Given 5 Star Wrestling Observer Rating

Hangman Pages dives on to Bryan Danielson

The long-awaited clash between Hangman Adam Page and Bryan Danielson at Winter is Coming has earned a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer.

At AEW Full Gear in November, Hangman Adam Page defeated long reigning champion Kenny Omega to capture the AEW World Championship. It was the culmination of two-year journey for Page who had been in the first ever AEW World Title match back in 2019.

Earlier on in the night Bryan Danielson defeated Miro to become the new number one contender. This eventually set up a clash between Page and Danielson at Winter is Coming.

On the December 15th special, the bout opened the show in front of a hot crowd. Despite the best efforts of both men in the incredibly hart-hitting back and forth contest, the bout ended without a winner. A bloodied and exhausted Adam Page finally connected with a Buckshot Lariat to leave him within seconds of victory when the bell rang to signify the end of match, as it had reached the 60-minute time limit.

The result meant that although Danielson remains undefeated, he left the ring without the World Championship. The match was lauded by fans and wrestlers alike on social media, earning a great deal of praise well into the night.

Writing in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it appears that Dave Meltzer was also a huge fan of the clash, awarding it a five-star rating. Interestingly the rating is Page’s second five-star or above match in a little over a month as his match with Omega at Full gear was given five and a half stars.

The match is also Danielson’s second five star match since joining AEW in September. His first being the 30-minute draw with Kenny Omega at AEW Grand Slam.

Elsewhere on the show, MJF won his third-straight Dynamite Diamond ring after seeing off the challenge of Dante Martin with a little help from Ricky Starks, who made sure Martin wouldn’t emerge victorious. After the match FTR came to the ring to join in the celebrations, before they were attacked by Sting and Darby Allin.

CM Punk then hit the ring to even the numbers, setting up a huge six-man tag team match between FTR & MJF and Sting, Darby Allin and CM Punk for December 22nd.
