Eric Bischoff Opens Up About Infamous WCW Botch

Eric Bischoff

Just like any pro wrestling promotion, WCW has been known for it’s share of blunders, and Eric Bischoff isn’t afraid to look back on some of those with a sense of humor.

The WCW product really suffered in the company’s waning years of 2000 and 2001 with wild gimmicks, haphazard storylines and some missed opportunities. One moment that clearly didn’t hit its mark was when the WCW faction New Blood tried to get one-up on Kevin Nash. The May 9, 2000 episode of “WCW Thunder” had Nash standing in the middle of the ring with baseball bat in hand, beckoning the New Blood to come fight. Vince Russo confronted Kevin from the stage and “blood” dropped from the rafters which was supposed to land right on “Big Sexy.” Instead it hilariously spilled down to the left of him. The moment is memorable in the worst possible way and it very much reflected the struggling times that the company was going through.

Eric Bischoff Looks Back On The Bloody Botch

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff looked back at the 2000 Great American Bash on “83 Weeks” but also reflected on that infamous moment that went down on that episode of “Thunder.”

“I’m wondering knowing Kevin, did he go, ‘Eh, I don’t think I wanna do this?’ Look, the apparatus, the setup for the blood was done earlier in the day. It’s clearly up to the talent to know where that fake blood is going to come down and be in the position in order to take it. Although, I did look at that and it looked offset instead of the blood coming down in the center of the ring, which you would expect. … It could’ve likely been a production faux pas, or it could’ve been Kevin going, ‘Nah, I don’t wanna do that.’ So, it’s just gonna miss me. I don’t know, I’ll have to ask Kevin next time I talk to him. Kevin’s a pro, though. I doubt that he would’ve done that intentionally, but there’s always that possibility.”
