Jim Ross Reveals Bret Hart Didn’t Speak To Him For Years Over Montreal, Despite Not Being Involved

Jim Ross kept it real on a recent episode of his podcast.

WWE Hall of Famer and legendary professional wrestling announcer Jim Ross was simply an observer at 1997’s WWE Survivor Series, where the infamous Montreal Screwjob match would happen, with Bret Hart losing the WWE Championship to Shawn Michaels.

Bret Hart Hated Jim Ross At One Time

Taking to his “Grilling JR” podcast, Jim Ross spoke about Hart and how “The Hitman” was livid with him after the Montreal Screwjob took place.

“We went for years [and] never spoke because he didn’t believe I was not a party to it. The truth was, I was not a party to it. The truth was, I didn’t even know the f***ing finish.”

Ross went on to say that he and Jerry “The King” Lawler “were whisked away by security” at the end of the bout when Earl Hebner gave a signal to the timekeeper to call for a submission, however, Hart wouldn’t actually submit. The WWE Hall of Famer would be put into the Molson Centre office of Vince McMahon and was told by McMahon not to open the door for anybody else but him.

“After the show, I was confused, I was upset — didn’t think it could go to that extreme.”

Looking back at things, Ross brought down the prestige of the championship that Hart lost, calling it “a prop, a goddamn prop … stage attire-type thing. It’s a prop for a fictional presentation.”

Ross said that he’s tired of hearing about what happened.

“I suffered so much about it, because it’s ad nauseam.”

He would later not that there was a warm post-script later on when Hart made his return to WWE almost a decade later.

“I’m glad to some degree that the story has a happy ending.”
