Dave Meltzer – “Andrade Is Trying To Get Fired”

Andrade El Idolo

Dave Meltzer has claimed that Andrade El Idolo is trying to get fired from All Elite Wrestling after his latest spat with Sammy Guevara.

Not for the first time in recent months, controversy has engulfed AEW with reports of a fight backstage.

The tension between Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara really ratcheted up when the former gave an interview where he claimed that the Spanish God complained about being hit too hard during a match. Guevara then shot back on Twitter, with the two men airing their beef very much in public.

Ahead of the October 5th Dynamite and Rampage tapings Andrade was pulled from his planned match against 10 on Rampage without explanation. This news was then quickly followed by reports that there had been a confrontation backstage between Andrade and Guevara where punches were thrown. Andrade was then sent home.

Discussing the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has claimed that Andrade is trying to get fired, confirming that he is one of three stars who want to leave.

“Andrade is trying to get fired, we all know that. So far, when guys want to leave, some will go to great extremes to do that. It has happened in WWE, I have talked to people in WWE who have tried to get fired with some of the craziest things in the world. I have told them look, it’s not going to work. There were some crazy stories of people trying to do some crazy things to get fired.

Getting in a fight was never one of them, but there’s much crazier things than that from people who wanted to leave, get out and they were not going to be allowed to do that, because the company was not going to release them.

So now there is a situation on the other front, and there’s not that many, it’s like 3, that want to leave. There’s different stories and whatever, Andrade is one of them, and you know, he has basically said it publicly in that interview.”

With regard to the planned match on Rampage featuring Andrade in which his AEW career was going to been the line, Meltzer noted it was done to lean into the real-life story that he wants to leave.

“The reason that they did this is because they were playing off of the rumours, which they are doing a lot of now on the internet. They are not rumours, it’s true, Andrade wanted to get out. So they are playing that up and it was a way to tease people with the idea that hey, they are doing this idea out of nowhere, so maybe Andrade is going to lose, that’s why they are doing it. So that was actually the reason they did this was actually because of that.

Now the match is not taking place, and it has nothing to do with neither guy not wanting to lose or anything like that. It was you know, that was the whole gist of the situation of the Andrade match and why it is being done. You can judge for yourself whether that is a good idea or a bad idea, they are doing a lot of stuff like that right now, because that’s where they believe the fanbase resides and everything like that, everyone knows these stories. I don’t know if that’s true, but whatever, and I’m sure we will get more of that.

If something is hot on social media, and they have done it with some of their angles, like some of the tampering and everything, they are trying playing off of real life. So that’s what AEW is doing right now, whether they will continue doing it or not I don’t know, but that is what they are doing right now.

While Andrade was sent home from the tapings, Sammy Guevara appeared in the main event as planned alongside Chris Jericho as thy defeated Daniel Garcia and Bryan Danielson. In fact, it was Guevara who scored the pin-fall much to the total disgust of those in the arena who had booed him throughout.

As of December 2023, the AEW star could be making a return to WWE.
