WWE Attempted To Buy Independent UK Promotion For $1,000,000

WWE Enters Major Legal Battle Worth Over $5,000,000

Will Ospreay has revealed that WWE once attempted to purchase UK independent promotion Revolution Pro Wrestling.

The claim was made by Ospreay following the successful defence of his IWGP United Kingdom Championship against Yota Tsuji at NJPW Destruction, which emanated from World Hall in Kobe, Japan.

Following the bout, Ospreay agreed to a match with fellow British star Zach Sabre Jnr at NJPW Royal Quest III on October 14th at London’s Copper Box Arena.

Having praised Revolution Pro Wrestling during his post-match address, Ospreay then revealed that an offer for the company had previously been made by WWE:

“A small independent UK company that had a million dollars from WWE offered to them and he turned it down, because he believed in Revolution Pro Wrestling.

I believe in Revolution Pro Wrestling, but more importantly, I believe in this flag [UK flag] and our pro wrestlers. I’m looking forward to bringing New Japan back to Royal Quest.”

WWE has previously partnered with independent promotions such as as Insane Championship Wrestling and PROGRESS to air both archived shows and new content alike. Partnering with these companies allowed WWE to showcase archive content from some of its current Superstars including Drew McIntyre and Gunther.

After forming a partnership between the two companies in 2015, WWE also purchased independent promotion EVOLVE in 2020.

Will Ospreay Received Five Stars For Recent RevPro Match

Ospreay recently competed for RevPro the day before he claimed victory over Chris Jericho at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.

The Brit battled against Shingo Takagi in the main event of the RevPro 11th Anniversary Show, a bout that received five stars from Dave Meltzer in a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

That rating saw Ospreay rack up his 28th five star rating from prominent wrestling journalist Meltzer, meaning the IWGP UK Champion has now registered more than any other wrestler.
