Tony Khan Confirms Sonny Kiss Was Not Re-Signed By AEW

AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed that Sonny Kiss’ contract with the company has not been renewed.

Speculations about Kiss’ departure began when fans noticed that his name had been removed from AEW’s roster page on their website. Later, it was reported by Fightful Select that Kiss’ contract had expired and was not renewed, a decision that Kiss has referred to as “heartbreaking.”

During a post-AEW All Outmedia scrum, Tony Khan addressed the situation and expressed his fondness for Kiss, stating:

I really like Sonny Kiss. We have a roster of over 100 wrestlers now across AEW… I can’t renew every single contract in AEW, it would be impossible.

Although Kiss is no longer with AEW, Khan left the door open for a potential return, emphasising that Kiss still has a lot of talent and potential:

I think Sonny Kiss is a great wrestler and had a lot of potential from the very beginning and still has a lot of potential. I think Sonny Kiss could certainly be back.

Does Tony Khan Think Sonny Kiss Could Come Back To AEW?

Tony Khan acknowledged the challenge of managing a large roster and limited TV spots but assured that he would keep an eye on Kiss and others who have left the company, welcoming them back if the opportunity arises or if an intriguing storyline presents itself:

We’ve seen people go on, do exciting stuff, and comeback like Stu Grayson. You never know what the future holds for Sonny Kiss. I think Sonny Kiss has a lot of talent and I wish him the best and I hold him in high regard.

Sonny Kiss had been with AEW since its inception in 2019, making appearances on AEW’s first show, Double or Nothing 2019, and competing on AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation. Kiss also had multiple appearances on ROH TV before his last match on AEW/ROH programming in July 2023. In the meantime, Kiss has been active on the independent wrestling scene.
