Jim Ross might not be All Elite for much longer.
Legendary announcer Jim Ross hasn’t featured on AEW television since the debut episode of Collision on June 17th. The day before the show, Ross suffered a nasty fall and appeared to struggle during the broadcast as a result. In the hours after the show, the WWE Hall of Famer announced that he was going to be taking a break.
In recent days, Ross revealed he had visited the emergency room out of concern about his radiation burn, which is a result of skin cancer treatment back in late 2021.
Speaking shortly after taking a break from announcing Jim Ross stated he “doesn’t have long left” on his AEW contract although is hoping to work All In at Wembley Stadium.
Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer offered an update on Ross and revealed his contract will expire in two months.
“Jim Ross is hoping to be back for Wembley Stadium but that’s just a goal. He has a radiation burn that he has to make sure doesn’t get infected and has been dealing with crippling sciatica, that a few weeks ago left him bedridden. He’s doing better thanks to chiropractic treatments in Norman, OK, from Dr. Ron Tripp, who is a former Olympic judoka who is the only man ever to beat Rickson Gracie in a competition match, throwing him in 48 seconds in the U.S. sambo national championships in 1983.
Ross’ current AEW contract expires in two months. There is no date for his return but it would likely be on Collision.”
When Did Jim Ross Join AEW?
Jim Ross signed with AEW in 2019 and became one of the lead announcers on Dynamite and pay-per-views. The move brought to an end Ross’ latest spell with WWE where he felt he was being underused and undervalued, something he told Vince McMahon.
Good ol’ JR began his career in wrestling as a referee back in 1974 before eventually becoming an announcer. During his Hall of Fame career, Ross has provided some of the most famous calls in the history of the industry and worked for Mid-South Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and most famously WWE.
