The tragic story of the Von Erich family is due to be the story of the A24-produced Iron Claw film, with Zac Efron due to be starring in it!
Zac Efron and Sean Durkin are all in this together as they’ve partnered up for the upcoming film Iron Claw, as was exclusively reported by Deadline. Durkin will be writing and directing the A24 drama. Efron, meanwhile, will be starring, although his role is unknown as of yet.
Iron Claw will depict the sad story of the famed Von Erich family. Famously, Kerry, Mike, and Chris Von Erich all tragically took their own lives following the sudden passing of David Von Erich. Fritz Von Erich, who passed away from brain and lung cancer, was the promoter of the acclaimed World Class Championship Wrestling organisation.
In announcing the film, the tagline reads:
“Based on the true story of the Von Erichs, the film follows the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day.”
Kevin Von Erich is the last surviving son of Fritz and was on hand to accept the family’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2009. His sons, Ross and Marshall, have continued the Von Erich legacy, having competed for Major League Wrestling and won their World Tag Team Championships.
This film could be the start of something new for Zac Efron. The 34-year-old has been breaking free as of late with a range of different roles. Regardless of who he plays in Iron Claw, it will act as an opportunity for Efron to sink his teeth into something a bit more gritty and intense, as opposed to his trademark comedic roles.
First rising to fame in the hit Disney trilogy High School Musical, Zac Efron has since diversified his career with a range of more adult-oriented releases. These include both Neighbours and Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising, Baywatch, and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, where he portrayed Ted Bundy.
Efron most recently starred as Andy McGee in the Keith Thomas-directed Firestarter, which was based on the novel by Stephen King.
