Would Eric Bischoff Ever Work For AEW Or Go Back To WWE?

Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff hasn’t held a position of any significance with a major wrestling company since leaving his role as Executive Director of SmackDown in 2019.

During his time in the industry, Bischoff has worked as an on-screen talent as well as holding major backstage roles in WCW, TNA, and WWE. The WWE Hall of Famer has also appeared on AEW television, although he has never held any kind of official position.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Bischoff was asked whether he could be tempted to take up a position backstage again or return to WWE. The former WCW boss explained that if he was younger, there’s no doubt he’d be back, however, at this time of his life he has no desire to work in the trenches.

“If I was 20 years younger, I’d [go back] in a heartbeat,” Bischoff said. “If I get a call from my buddy Bruce [Prichard] and he goes, ‘Interested in coming back? I need one of your fingers.’ As long as I’m on my left hand and not right, I’d probably go for it. I loved my time, and can’t say enough about the quality of people that work in WWE.

But, I’m 68 years old, and I live in a beautiful part of Wyoming — right outside Yellowstone National Park. It’s been my dream to live here since I was a little kid, and I worked my ass out throughout my life to have what I have now. At this point, I don’t want to be away for extended periods.”

With regard to working in AEW, Bischoff added that he doesn’t want to work with Tony Khan, before praising him as a “good human being.”

“Tony has a very, very generous heart,” Bischoff said. “He’s a good human being. But the truth is, for me to have any sort of positive impact on the process, you have to be in it. You can’t do it remotely. If Tony calls me and offers me a million dollars to work via Zoom, I wouldn’t do it because I know it wouldn’t be fair. It won’t be successful.”

Eric Bischoff Names Biggest Wrestling Regret

During the same interview, Eric Bischoff reflected on his lengthy career and was asked whether he had any regrets from his time at the frontline of the industry. Interestingly, Bischoff steered away from a number of moments that fans might expect, saying that he wishes he could have spent more time learning from the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper.
