Scottish Football Club Hibernian Parody WWE To Celebrate Upcoming Match Against Aston Villa

Dominik Mysterio is currently taking over the world of sports entertainment but ‘Dirty’ Dom is making news today for his involvement in another sport…football.

The Custody of Dominik ladder match from SummerSlam 2005 is one of WWE’s most infamous stipulation matches of all time and has breached the mainstream becoming an ever present meme online for nearly two decades now.

The match graphic has been used by fans across the world in a variety of hilarious and creative manners and Scottish football clubs Hibernian are the latest to join that trend.

On the 17th of August 2023 Hibernian, who are comfortably Edinburgh’s third biggest football team behind Heart of Midlothian and Edinburgh City, drew 2-2 with Swiss side Luzern to advance to the final play off qualifying round of the European Conference League thanks to a 3-1 win in the home leg in the week prior.

Hibernian have been drawn against Premier League giants Aston Villa in the final qualifying round, a tough draw for most sides but an especially emotional one for Hibs as Villa’s captain John McGinn will be returning to Easter Road where he made his mark between 2015 and 2018 prior to his reported £3m move to Aston Villa.

Hibernian took to social media to celebrate reaching the next round of qualifying and have a joke around McGinn’s return last night and did so by sharing a hilarious image of John McGinn photoshopped over the face of Dominik Mysterio in what is now being called ‘The Custody of John McGinn Ladder Match.’

The tweet has done exceptionally well for Hibernian generating nearly 2,000,000 impressions in less than 24 hours and helping then club reach a whole new audience.

Hibernian recently found themselves in hot water after a group of fans reacted poorly to a 2-1 away loss to Motherwell and decided to destroy the Fir Park (Motherwell’s home ground) away end in anger.

Although a unreasonable and unjustifiable reaction, it is understandable that Hibernian fans would be frustrated as they are approaching 150 years of being Edinburgh’s wee team and living in the shadow of the ‘Jam Tarts’ Heart of Midlothian who also secured their place in the final playoff round of European Conference League qualifying thanks to an inspired performance from Cammy Devlin who bagged a brace to give Hearts a 3-1 win at Tynecastle against the travelling Rosenborg.
