Jim Ross On Vince McMahon Not Talking About Family

Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H

Jim Ross has discussed Vince McMahon not discussing his family life in the workplace. McMahon’s only brother Rod passed away at the age of 77 in January 2021.

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross, who worked very closely with Vince McMahon for many years was asked if McMahon discussed family around the office. The subject of McMahon’s step-mother passing away in 1998 came up and Ross said the following:

“He didn’t talk a lot about his family back in the day. He was sad that she passed obviously, but it wasn’t something Vince talked a lot about.”

“I don’t think that was a highlight of his life, how he was raised. He didn’t talk a lot about his family and nor did we ask.”

Vince McMahon reportedly had a turbulent upbringing, not meeting his biological father Vincent J. McMahon until later in his childhood. McMahon’s mother, Victoria Askew, celebrated her 100th birthday in July 2020.

Vince’s own children are of course heavily involved in the wrestling business. His son Shane and daughter Stephanie have worked their way through the ranks in WWE. Stephanie is currently the Chief Brand Officer of the company and her husband, Triple H, acts as Chief Operating Officer. Shane left WWE in 2009 before making a surprising return in 2016. Although he currently holds no official corporate title, he has been heavily involved in helping produce matches, including this year’s men’s Royal Rumble.

Jim Ross discussed a variety of topics on his podcast, including the possibility that his own life story may be getting made into a film.
