Will Ospreay Earns 8th Five-Star Match Rating In 2023

Will Ospreay has earned his 32nd five-star or above match, taking his total for 2023 up to eight.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer has once again bestowed a prestigious honour upon the talented Will Ospreay. Ospreay, known for his awe-inspiring performances, has received his 32nd five-star or above match rating from Meltzer.

Notably, this marks Ospreay’s eighth five-star rating in 2023 alone. His most recent accolade comes in the form of a remarkable five and three-quarter star rating for his electrifying match with Shota Umino, a clash that saw Umino vie for both the IWGP US and UK titles, both of which Ospreay holds currently. The highly anticipated showdown took place at the November 4th spectacle, NJPW Power Struggle.

The match lasted just over 40 minutes and both wrestlers landed multiple near falls before Ospreay hit Umino with his finish The Stormbreaker to secure the pinfall victory.

What Other Will Ospreay Matches This Year Got Five-Stars?

Will Ospreay currently has eight matches with five stars or more in 2023. Will Ospreay’s match with Mike Bailey at Impact Wrestling Bound For Glory received a rating of five and a quarter stars.

This rating was Impact’s highest-ever rated match by Meltzer. Impact only has one other five-star match which occurred at Unbreakable in 2005 when AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe battled over the X-Divison Championship in the main event of the show.
