Report Claims Roderick Strong Has Asked For WWE Release

Roderick Strong

A new report has claimed that Roderick Strong has asked for his WWE release “multiple times” in recent months.

Roderick Strong signed with WWE in 2016 where he began appearing on the NXT brand. Over the course of the following six years, Strong won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and the North American Title. He also captured NXT tag team gold twice as part of the Undisputed Era.

As of May 2022, Strong is the last remaining member of the group in NXT having seen Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish move to AEW. Strong’s wife Marina Shafir has also departed NXT for Tony Khan’s promotion.

However, a new report has claimed that Strong has also attempted to leave the company. In fact he has requested his release on several occasions in recent months.

The report from Fightful Select notes that Strong has asked for his release “multiple times” although his requests have been denied. Strong is said to have become frustrated with “many things” in the company over the past year.

In addition, sources revealed that Strong had been pitched a name change, something he was opposed to. Furthermore, many within the company were surprised that he didn’t feature in the latest round of releases given he has been open about his desire to leave.

In closing, the report states that Strong has remained professional, while WWE sources have confirmed that Strong remains factored into creative plans and the company have no desire to let him leave.

On April 29th, WWE released ten NXT Superstars including Dakota Kai, Harland and Malcom Bivens. It has since been revealed that Bivens and Dakota Kai had no plans to re-sign with the company ahead of being let go.
