Wade Barrett Teases Comeback Following Sheamus’ WrestleMania Win

Wade Barrett hasn’t competed inside a WWE ring since April 4th 2016. However, could that be about to change?

Appearing on a special edition of WWE After The Bell, the five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion initially moved to praise Sheamus following his United Sates Title victory at WrestleMania 37.

Barrett praised Sheamus’ longevity before adding that he might have unfinished business inside the squared circle.

“Well, Sheamus is like Benjamin Button. He’s actually older than me and somehow he’s still going as good as ever, if not better. So, hats off to him. I hit 35 and I started getting one foot out of the wrestling ring and into other things at that point, although maybe I’m not done for good, we’ll see, but Sheamus, he goes as hard as ever and good for him. I’m glad he’s done knocking about in the mix of the upper echelon of WWE.”

The former King Of The Ring winner, elaborated further by saying that it “wouldn’t take much” for him to return. Speaking to Vic Joseph, Barrett was quick to point out that he’s enjoying working in NXT, but he’s also got some gas left in the tank when it comes to in-ring competition.

“I’m all about the big paydays, Mr. Joseph. It would not take much to remove me from the seat next to you and get back in the ring. I will say, I’m very much enjoying my job with NXT, but I have always made sure there is at least a little bit left in the tank.”

Wade Barrett left WWE in 2016 after declining to renew his contract with the company. Barrett returned to WWE in August of 2020, appearing as a commentator in NXT.

The Preston, England native, hinted at a return to the ring back in October, where he said that he was “close to being ready” to make a comeback.

Barrett has feuded with Sheamus numerous times throughout his time with WWE. Latterly the pair found themselves side by side in the League of Nations. Sheamus teamed with Barrett in a losing effort against The New Day in what would prove to be his final WWE match to date.
